Two Noras: December 7, 1914 and December 7, 2021

Nora Bauer: Monday, December 7, 1914

Was cloudy all day again. Gertrude, Anna, and I went to church tonight.

Nora Spitznogle: Tuesday, December 7, 2021

Worked at Second Helpings today. Mom's after to help get her paperwork organized.

Another evening at church for Grandma Nora and two of her sisters. I wonder what Mamie was doing?

Spent time at Mom's. Keeping paperwork organized in this digital era is difficult for someone who isn't interested doing anything online. It's always nice to spend time with her and to be able to help in someway.

Nora Bauer: Sunday, December 6, 1914

Made potpie this morning. Went to 10 o'clock Mass. Was to Vespers too and walked around town with Florence and Louise. Started to rain again so we came home on the car.

Happy Saint Nicholas Day! A regular work day of meetings and such. In-person Indianapolis City Market Board Meeting in the City-County Building this afternoon - I'm the secretary of the board.

It's so much fun to think about Grandma Nora. I wonder if it was chicken potpie and she killed the chicken?

I wonder if the car she came home with her school chums was a streetcar?

Our family always celebrated St. Nicholas Day by putting one of our shoes on the hearth and St. Nicholas would leave us a Christmas ornament. Now I put a shoe outside my door and magically an ornament appears. I now have a collection of at least 60 dated Christmas ornaments. One of my goals to organize all of my holiday decorations and separate out the annual ones.

Our City Market board meetings are in one of the public City-County rooms - it's a little intimidating...the meetings are televised and the public sits in the gallery area. I'm always afraid that I'm not formal enough.

Two Noras: December 5, 1914 and December 5, 2021

Nora Bauer: Saturday, December 5, 1914

Was raining again today. Was up town this morning. Gertrude and Anna went up town tonight and I pressed my skirt.

Nora Spitznogle: Sunday, December 5, 2021

I was an EME at 10:30 Mass at Saint Joan of Arc, brunch with Kim,  dinner at Linda's followed by Winterlights.

This seems like a bit of a sad entry. December rain, staying home to iron while your sisters go uptown. Hopefully Grandma Nora was feeling okay.

I had a very fun day. Mass at 10:30, followed by a brunch at Milktooth with Kim. It was a chilly wait for a table, but so worth it.

We ordered both the sweet and savory Dutch Babies - so good...and I'm writing about them for a piece in Indianapolis Monthly! I've wanted to write for them forever and I'm excited about being assigned a few blurbs for a food feature.

Linda (college friend, Marigold owner) hosted a fun dinner with her sister Tina and her husband Dave, and niece Elizabeth (Marigold manager) and her daring twins. Yummy soup and laughter.

Linda treated Tina, Dave, and I to tickets to Winterlights at Newfields. The incredible lights are one of my favorite things to see and it always puts my in the holiday spirit.

It was super cold, but the lights, good company, and spiked hot chocolate helped keep me warm.

Two Noras: December 4, 1914 and December 4, 2021

Nora Bauer: Friday, December 4, 1914

Went to 6 o'clock Mass this morning. Was raining pretty hard. Has rained every day this week.

Nora Spitznogle: Saturday, December 4, 2021

Worked at both Marigold and the Red Key Tavern today, with a necessary wee nap in between.

I am in awe of Grandma Nora's church-going and commitment to the parish.

Nothing much to tell about my day...work, followed by work.

Two Noras: December 3, 1914 and December 3, 2021

Nora Bauer: Thursday, December 3, 1914

Went to singing class tonight. Went to confession afterwards. Come home with Mrs. Medland.

Nora Spitznogle: Friday, December 3, 2021

Worked at Second Helpings, Cultivate Culinary folks visited. Enjoyed a quiet evening at home.

I thought that singing class was on Wednesdays, but it seems like they mix it up. I love that there were enough priests that the sacrament of confession didn't have to happen during scheduled times. This isn't the first time that Grandma Nora has mentioned Mrs. Medland. You might remember that they had a baby in January.

You may also remember that I attended the Cultivate Culinary fundraiser in September. It was fun to give them a tour - we haven't had many visitors in the building in the last two years.

Two Noras: December 2, 1914 and December 2, 2021

Nora Bauer: Wednesday, December 2, 1914

Paul called up this evening. Said he was going to see Mutt & Jeff tomorrow evening.

Nora Spitznogle: Thursday, December 2, 2021

Worked at Second Helpings. Josh Kaufman concert at Silo this evening with Kassie, Tracy, and Schaun.

Was Paul asking Grandma Nora to see Mutt & Jeff with him? I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see...
I had a fun evening. I gave Kassie tickets for the Josh Kaufman show at Silo for her upcoming birthday.
Silo is a great place to hear music - everyone is there to listen. Josh won the vocal competition, The Voice, in 2014.

Two Noras: December 1, 1914 and December 1, 2021

Nora Bauer: Tuesday, December 1, 1914

Was up town this afternoon. Saw Mary Spitz and her Mother. Finished my center piece tonight.

Nora Spitznogle: Wednesday, December 1, 2021

Worked downtown today at Second Helpings. Lunch with financial guy. Decorated porch tonight - looks great!

I think I have this right - Mary Spitznogle is a cousin to Paul. Mary's mother is Honora Minneman (often listed as Nora, so another Nora Spitznogle!) and her papa is Conrad Spitznogle. Another center piece - Grandma Nora was busy.

Another busy day for me. I had lunch with a financial guy - it's about time that I'm getting my ducks in a row is see if I can ever retire.
I bought these vintage blow mold decorations at an auction in Boone County last year. They look great on the porch. Note the old C9 lights across the top of the house - a lot of the bulbs are vintage - and I change them seasonally. The lights make the house seem warm and friendly.
View from outside into my living room. I'm a huge fan of the movie, A Christmas Story, and this leg lamp makes my smile every time I pull into the driveway.
