Two Noras: 1915 and 2023

My  paternal grandmother, Nora, was a great recorder of daily events. I have her daily notes from 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1918, 1919, 192...

Two Noras: July 11, 1914 and July 11, 2021

Nora Bauer: Saturday, July 11, 1914

Gertrude, Anna and I went to town tonight. Bought a pillow to work on.  Got home about 8:30.

Nora Spitznogle: Sunday, July 11, 2021

Spent the day puttering around the house and not accomplishing anything. Broad Ripple Farm Dinner this evening - delicious.

I love that the sisters had another Saturday night up town. I wonder what sort of work Grandma Nora will be doing on the pillow? Something fancy, I'm sure.

I really enjoy the mostly-annual Broad Ripple Farmers Market Dinner. It's part fundraiser, part celebration, part foodie event, and all organic and delicious.

This year the dinner was on the grounds of Full Hand Farm. I was grateful to hitch a ride with Linda Shikany - college friend and owner of Marigold, her niece Elizabeth and her husband, Peter, and another friend. I was even happy to sit in the middle seat!

We parked at Mercantile 37, a wonderful shop full of local makers - I'm looking forward to a return visit.

We were golf-carted in the rain across the road and down the lane to Full Hand Farm. Tours were available - when ever I see an operation like this I'm ready to put a tall hoop house in my front yard and start growing.

Gary and Linda - Marigold sponsored the music!

I've been in such a fog the last few weeks that I forgot that I'd connected the organizers with Gary Wasson to provide the music.
I'm envious of this hoop house.

The farmers and mixologist introduced each course - everything was so good that I didn't take any photos of the food. Everything was organic and the service ware is compostable. It was fun to see my composting guy - Green with Indy - and his wife there. We also use him at Second Helpings.

As a farm kid we composted by accident. Any food scraps were flung into the field. My backyard is certainly big enough to handle composting and I've done it with moderate success for years. It's decadent and wonderful to be able to set me little covered bucket at the end of the driveway each week. Supporting a startup minority owned business is a bonus.

I'm grateful for the lovely evening - and I'm glad the rain didn't stop anything.
