Two Noras: 1915 and 2023

My  paternal grandmother, Nora, was a great recorder of daily events. I have her daily notes from 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1918, 1919, 192...

Two Noras: May 13, 1914 and May 13, 2021

Nora Bauer: Wednesday, May 13, 1914

Uncle Val is not expected to live. Bee came home this noon and Uncle Nick tonight.

Nora Spitznogle: Thursday, May 13, 2021

Worked from 8:00 - 8:00 today. Met friends at the Red Key after. Things are feeling normal.

What a sad day this must have been for Grandma Nora's family. Her papa's brother was dying.  Her cousin Beatrice (Sister Hyacinth) rushed home and her Uncle Nick came from Southern Indiana (I think that's where he as living at the time). Uncle Val was only 55 years-old.

Nora's paternal aunts, Mary and Susannah, had both died two years before - what a rough time for the Bauer family.

So far Nora hasn't mentioned her papa in her daily writing, although she's only mentioned her mama twice so far. I assume that her dad was kept busy with the tavern, although the Indiana "blue laws" preventing Sunday liquor sales were still in effect, so I'm thinking that Great-Grandpa Felix was participating in church events and such.

I need to get a better photograph - this stained glass with Felix B. Bauer, Nora's papa, over one of the entry doors to St. Joseph's Catholic Church (now All Saints) in Logansport.

I worked a long day, although it didn't feel like it - there is so much going on. Caught up with some friends that I haven't seen in years at the Red Key after work. So much fun!
