Rained again today. Was to singing class tonight.

Art opening with Kassie and Tracy this evening.

When Grandma Nora posts about the weather, you can guess that nothing out of the ordinary happened.
Terrific musician, Tim Brickley, and I were business neighbors at 54th/College

I worked at Second Helpings today. Went to Marc Jacobson's art show opening with Kassie and Tracy then to dinner at Binkley's. It was a lovely Friday evening running into long-time friends and seeing art.

Not much doing today. Was very cloudy all day and started to rain about 5 o'clock. Did fancy work tonight.

Nora Spitznogle: Thursday, October 14, 2021

Worked at Second Helpings today. Brother J.R. and I went to Logansport for a viewing then drove by family landmarks.

It sounds like Grandma Nora's day was pretty boring.

J.R. and I went to Logansport for the calling for our cousin Judi's (Cletus' daughter) mother-in-law. It was nice to visit with Judi and Rick and meeting baby Carly (granddaughter of J&R). Carly would be a great-great-granddaughter of Nora. I can't believe that I forgot to get a photo of her!
We drove by the house where the Bauer's were living in 1914. At least I think it is - Nora wrote that her address was 125 Helm Street, but that address doesn't exist, in fact, I think it would be in the river. I don't know if the numbering system changed at some point or if they moved or if Nora wrote her address wrong. Later records show the address at 525. I'm hoping to find a street map of that era to try to sort out the mystery.

J.R. remembers being at the 525 Helm Street house to visit Great-Aunt Mamie, although it was split into a double by the 70s. I must have been there, but I sure don't remember it.

I was so excited about seeing the house that I was ready to jump out of the vehicle and look at it from the sidewalk. Luckily J.R. was paying more attention. I'm pretty sure it there was a shady sort of deal being transacted on the roof of a car in front of the house and the woman hanging out of the upstairs window was keeping a close eye on us.

I'm so sad at how run down the house is. It looks like it's still split into two residences. I wonder which room was Aunt Nora's?

I hope to get a closer look at the house one day....

Nora Bauer: Tuesday, October 13, 1914

Worked till almost 7 o'clock tonight. Anna went to the club and I did a little fancy work finished one of my pillow cases.

Nora Spitznogle: Wednesday, October 13, 2021

Started a seminar series on Building Stronger Neighborhoods with the staff at the Indianapolis City Market. Otherwise it was a perfectly typical work day.

I would love to see Grandma Nora's fancy work. And I've become overly partial to the term "fancy work," although I don't do anything remotely fancy.

I'm participating in a six week seminar with the team from the City Market. It's focused on telling our organization's financial stories. I like stories....financials, not so much....

Went up town this afternoon instead of going to the bank, but they were closed on account of Columbus Day.

Committee meeting for a Heritage Place fundraiser and spoke to group entering the church at Saint Joan of after work.

Columbus Day was recognized as a federal holiday in until 1934, but many towns and states celebrated it - including Logansport.

I'm on the committee for the Trivia Night fundraiser for Heritage Place. Kind of fun to have an in person meeting after all of these months of video meetings.

I spoke to the group of people joining the Catholic Church about the joy I find in my faith. I referenced Dad - his faith was so strong and he was 100% that there is a joyous afterlife. I sure hope he's right - and have a wonderful time.

Had a beautiful day today altho it was a little chilly. Was out to Willy's house to spend the day. Then came in for the entertainment. It was real good.

Our new Second Helpings CEO started today. I've known Linda for awhile - she'll be great! Hard rain here today, walked over to Twenty Tap celebrate our late friend, Matt's birthday.

I know that at some point a Willy married a Spitznogle, but I don't know if there is a Bauer/Willy connection.

It looks like the pay was a success! In light of the current pandemic, I cringe when I think of how crowded that place was.

Our new CEO started today, I think she'll be great.

It was a cloudy evening, but I managed to get the front yard mowed before the rain hit. And I killed two birds - last mow of the season and mulched the leaves.

Note the photo of Matt under the neon sign

I walked in the rain to meet a group of friends our late friend, Matt Elliott's birthday. I can't believe it's been 10 years since he died. We had fun telling Matt stories and hanging out on the corner - 54th and College - at Twenty Tap, the site of Northside Newsstand, in the space where most of us met him (and each other).

The sign mentioned in the piece I wrote is now at Twenty Tap
It enjoyed seeing everyone...and I miss Matt.

Nora Bauer: Saturday, October 10, 1914

Had quite a hard rain today. We went up town this evening. After we got home Paul called me up. He asked who brought my box and I told him a real swell guy.

Nora Spitznogle: Sunday, October 10, 2021

Drove to Cincinnati to meet two of my 1961 Weight Watchers friends - great to catch up with them! Came back just in time to celebrate Kim's birthday at Ambrosia. What fun day of friendship.

I've been searching for what the deal was with the boxes. I assume that it was a fundraiser and that Paul purchased her box.

Nora, Amy, Karen

I had a fun day, drove to Cincinnati (115 miles) to meet up with two friends that I met on a Weight Watchers message board years ago. Amy lives in the area and Karen is visiting her daughter, and is from New England.

It was so much fun to catch with them and chat with women that were born the same year as I was.

Kim
I got home just in time for Kim's birthday celebration at Ambrosia. A lovely evening of yummy food and good company!

Nora Bauer: Friday, October 9, 1914

Was rather nice out this morning but clouded this after noon and raining again this evening.

Nora Spitznogle: Saturday, October 9, 2021

Worked at both Marigold and the Red Key Tavern today, with a lovely party in between.

When Grandma Nora writes about the weather I figure that she's had a pretty boring day.

I had a full day. I worked at Marigold until 3:00 then popped into a housewarming for a 100 year old home. My friends Heidi and Alan moved into the home that Alan had grown up in and had been in the family for decades. They did a great job updating the house and I'm glad they're keeping it in the family.

Great to see Tammy at the party!
