Two Noras: 1915 and 2023

My  paternal grandmother, Nora, was a great recorder of daily events. I have her daily notes from 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1918, 1919, 192...

Two Noras: October 14, 1914 and October 14, 2021

Nora Bauer: Wednesday, October 14, 1914

Not much doing today. Was very cloudy all day and started to rain about 5 o'clock. Did fancy work tonight.

Nora Spitznogle: Thursday, October 14, 2021

Worked at Second Helpings today. Brother J.R. and I went to Logansport for a viewing then drove by family landmarks.

It sounds like Grandma Nora's day was pretty boring.

J.R. and I went to Logansport for the calling for our cousin Judi's (Cletus' daughter) mother-in-law. It was nice to visit with Judi and Rick and meeting baby Carly (granddaughter of J&R). Carly would be a great-great-granddaughter of Nora. I can't believe that I forgot to get a photo of her!
We drove by the house where the Bauer's were living in 1914. At least I think it is - Nora wrote that her address was 125 Helm Street, but that address doesn't exist, in fact, I think it would be in the river. I don't know if the numbering system changed at some point or if they moved or if Nora wrote her address wrong. Later records show the address at 525. I'm hoping to find a street map of that era to try to sort out the mystery.

J.R. remembers being at the 525 Helm Street house to visit Great-Aunt Mamie, although it was split into a double by the 70s. I must have been there, but I sure don't remember it.

I was so excited about seeing the house that I was ready to jump out of the vehicle and look at it from the sidewalk. Luckily J.R. was paying more attention. I'm pretty sure it there was a shady sort of deal being transacted on the roof of a car in front of the house and the woman hanging out of the upstairs window was keeping a close eye on us.

I'm so sad at how run down the house is. It looks like it's still split into two residences. I wonder which room was Aunt Nora's?

I hope to get a closer look at the house one day....
