Two Noras: 1915 and 2023

My  paternal grandmother, Nora, was a great recorder of daily events. I have her daily notes from 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1918, 1919, 192...

Two Noras: December 9, 1914

Nora Bauer: Wednesday, December 9, 1914

Snowed almost all day again. Took my collar bag down at the office to work on it.

Nora Spitznogle: Thursday, December 9, 2021

Regular work day, meetings and culinary job training student interviews. Slowly going through things from the Farm.

I love how Grandma Nora took things to work to keep her occupied in the down times. I think she wrote "collar bag," but I'm not entirely sure that the word is bag...any ideas?

It was typical work day for me. Meeting, Zoom and otherwise, and interviewing potential students.

How cool is this box? Dad had it stashed in his closet. Nora's little brother, Herman Edward Bauer, claimed it by putting his name on each side. I think it's written in chalk, so I've tried not to handle it too much.

My first thought was that this was a liquor box from their papa's tavern. It looks like the handles were added later.

When I downloaded this photograph, I realized that there were words above his name on one side! Any guesses? I think the middle word is either "hot" or "not." Is the third word "exchange?"

Another mystery!

I'm finding the box to be a great place to stash the Bauer treasures I'm running across.
