Two Noras: 1915 and 2023

My  paternal grandmother, Nora, was a great recorder of daily events. I have her daily notes from 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1918, 1919, 192...

Was to 6 o'clock Mass this morning. Then got a picture from Mother Superior. It was been snowing almost all day.

Busy work day at Second Helpings, followed by volunteering for a Black owned businesses pop-up holiday event at the City Market.

I'm adding the question of who was the Mother Superior at St. Joseph's Catholic School to the list of things that I'll research when I have time.

I had a lovely evening of volunteering at the City Market for a pop-up holiday event. It was great to catch up with one of my classmates from my Purdue University Urban Farming certificate class.  Sharonna Moore is an amazing woman and a force of nature.

While the Urban Farming class wasn't what I expected - I thought we'd be learning about soils and farming practices - I met so many amazing people. The nine-month course was geared towards building community and food access - even better than what I expected. And I met so many amazing younger people that are out fighting for food access and nutritious food for their communities.

Sharonna went to one of the largest liquor distributors in town and asked them for a slice of their land for a community garden. Monarch stepped up a big way - donating 7.6 acres of land and even clearing the grass and prepping the soil for the project. Check out Lawrence Community Garden here: http://lawrencecommunitygardens.org/

I loved sharing in her excitement of getting electricity installed at the garden yesterday! No more freezing water for the chickens this winter! I was happy that she was selling some eggs from those chickens this evening.
