Two Noras: 1915 and 2023

My  paternal grandmother, Nora, was a great recorder of daily events. I have her daily notes from 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1918, 1919, 192...

Two Noras: August 9, 1914 and August 9, 2021

Nora Bauer: Sunday, August 9, 1914

Went out to Mary's for dinner today. There were about 45 people there. Had a little ride this afternoon. Also had some pictures taken. Chris & Anna and Paul and I drove to the Park before coming home.

Nora Spitznogle: Monday, August 9, 2021

Worked downtown at Second Helpings today, lots of (virtual) meetings. Had a delicious dinner at Ambrosia with my tenant Manuela and former-tenant, writer, Dan Wakefield. Worked on catching up on State Fair writing and housework after.

Oh Grandma Nora! Who is Mary? Where did you ride? In Paul's carriage? I wish I could see those pictures! Another mystery...who is the Chris that Anna was with? Remember, Anna and Chris were mentioned last month. Anna would have been 22.5 years old this day.

I spent way too long searching for newspaper mentions of Anna and Chris and trying to find mention of a party hosted by Mary on this day. Lots of dead ends.

I am delighted that Nora had such a nice day.

I'm not sure why I keep writing that I worked downtown - I hardly ever work remotely anymore, even though I would love to. Second Helpings is my full-time 50ish hours/week job.

I was dragging a little bit today - lots of work last weekend plus writing up my State Fair visits for NUVO has made for some late nights. I'm glad that I rallied for dinner.

I don't think that I mentioned that another short-term tenant moved in to the other side of my house. She arrived the morning after Dad died and it was all a blur. I was delighted to make the connection that Manuela worked for me a the coffeehouse when she was 16. Now she has her own family and is working on her doctorate. She came to Indiana for six weeks to visit her Dad and sisters and have some quiet time to work on her thesis. She is a big Kurt Vonnegut fan and was thrilled to learn that Kurt's friend and fellow writer, Dan Wakefield, had lived in the same space she was.

Manuela invited us to a lovely dinner at Ambrosia, founded by her parents and now owned by her sister. It was so nice to eat delicious food, have a cocktail, and listen to Dan and Manuela chat.

I managed to write a bit and toss a load of laundry in the washer before falling into bed.
