Two Noras: 1915 and 2023

My  paternal grandmother, Nora, was a great recorder of daily events. I have her daily notes from 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1918, 1919, 192...

Two Noras: September 3, 1914 and September 3, 2021

Nora Bauer: Thursday, September 3, 1914

Was to singing class tonight and then went to confession. Paul called me up. Mrs. Cramer died this morning at 4 o'clock.

Graduation at Second Helpings today, always heartwarming. Looking forward to the long weekend. Spent a quiet night at home - big sofa nap.

Oh my goodness, it took me a while to unwind this one....first of all, it's Kramer, not Cramer. Paul's mother was a Kramer, the Mrs. Kramer that died was married to one of Paul's uncles, George Jacob Kramer.

George married Mary Schaffer in 1904. After Mary died in 1914, he married Mary Higgins six months later. I guess it kept it simple by marrying Marys - side note his mother's name was Mary also. Sensibly, he did not name any of his daughters Mary. There are enough Mary Kramers to sort through as it is.

Culinary Job Training Graduations are always a treat. Got the building buttoned up for the long weekend before I left. I took a big nap on the sofa before I went to bed.
